Asistencia San Antonio de Pala

Asistencia San Antonio de Pala
(Seen in Oct. 2026)

Founded by Antonio Peyrí on June 13, 1816 as an Asistencia to Mission San Luis Rey de Francia.

California Missions Foundation statement about the Asistencias.

The Asistencia is known today as a Mission San Antonio de Pala, but it is not counted as one of the official 21 Missions of California: In the Spanish/Mexican era the Asistencia was not elevated to a full Mission status. It is located in the Pala Indian Reservation.

Pala Tribe provides their own information about the Mission San Antonio de Pala.
The address of the Asistencia/Mission is: 11798 Pala Mission Road, Pala, California 92059.

The Mission has an active parish. For information about the parish and visiting consult the official web site of Asistencia San Antonio de Pala. Especially note that the Museum and Gift Shop are only open on 2nd and 4th Saturday of the month, 10am to 2pm. Parish Office Number is 760-742-3317.

A call to confirm access to the Museum is recommended. On the day we came, despite all the travel and organizational effort to be on time on the right Saturday, they simply locked down the museum "for a special event", and so we stood in front of a locked door. Not nice.

We were able to make a few snapshots through the windows between the wooden grid bars, to give an idea of the interior of the Museum.
