Jasper, Spots Documentation (Oct 2024 Redesign)

This a post-2024 redesign, made with the idea of making it easy and more obvious where the best points of interests are. I also link to a complete listing of everything.

  • Archey Fork

A spot we found anew in 2024, it has become our favorite spot of them all. It's not too busy, it's not hard or challenging to get to, it's pretty, it has great deep swimming and spots for jumping, isn't far from eating places, and hasn't (as of this writing) been "overly-visited" to the point of making it "stale" as it were. My wife and I both rank this as probably our favorite spot of all.

    Ponca Bridge

A favorite of ours until 2022, when a large tree fell into the best spot. If the tree has been moved or is moved, it would be a really good one again.

    Robertson Hole

A spot which we first visited in 2021, although it had been in the Tim Ernst book all along, we went that year to sort of "freshen things up."

** NOTE: The road is closed near the final destination, you need to detour down N Woolum Road coming from Pindall. Follow the route to detour 1 (link), then detour 2 (link), then the final destination (link).

    Blue Hole (Troy Eddings)

A spot from 2012 with directions provided by the cabin owners, also featured in the book, it's almost always deep no matter the water levels, but the road is a bit rought at times.

    Falling Waterfalls

A spot derived from the book in 2013, a bit much for us as we age, but very enjoyable, but rather remote from eating places etc even by the standards of the area (figure on next to no cell phone service).

    Illinois Bayou

A new spot discovered in 2024 from the Gez Rogers map. It has 2 spots--the one given by the coordinates, which is deep but sometimes crowded, and another about 0.2 miles earlier which is shallower but more scenic and quieter. It's rather stranded from anything else.

    Grinder's Ferry

Found on the fly in 2015, not very scenic but has a great swimming hole in one area. However, it can at times become rather crowded.

    Shine Eye

Listed in the book, very scenic and plenty deep, and close to other spots such as Collier Homestead or Tyler Bend.
