Robertson Hole![]() Home City: Pindall/St Joe's ARK GPS: Park: 35.97083,-092.8794 Detour to 36.0639,-92.8787, then to 35.99022,-92.896 (1) Follow this link to Pindall--- then (2) follow this link to N Woolum detour from Pindall Shade: Fair Proximity to Food/Gas: ~ 20 Minutes (St Joe's, Pindall) How We Found It: Tim Ernst book Fee: No Years Visited: 2021, 2024 (blocked off in 2024) Photo Gallery: Here Video: Gez Rogers, Woolum Pros: Scenic, water gets deep quickly, secluded, hiking in same area, good jumping, not overly visited by us. Cons: Not very much shade, not much food in the area Grade: A This is a spot we tried out in 2021 to sort of "freshen up things" which had become a bit "stale" for us. We'd seen it in the book all along, but never tried it out. In 2021, we decided to finally do so. Located right in the thick of what is commonly called "Woolum campground," Robertson Hole is a darned good spot. The water is deep, and quickly, and stays that way throughout in the spot we found, and the kids (12 and 14 at the time) found a platform where they could jump in from pretty high. We went twice that year, and it wasn't particularly crowded when we did so, other than one time some older persons were riding their horses in shallow parts and were canoeing otherwise, and they let Adrian ride in their canoe, which he enjoyed. The scenery is first rate, it's easy to get good scenic shots. Shade is somewhat sparse, something to consider on hot days. You're also probably a good 20 minutes away from anything to eat, presumably in Pindall or St Joe's. You are in the BOONIES here (as I recall, our phones didn't work). There appears to be good camping in this spot as well. According to the Tim Ernst book (p 94), there is a side trip here worth checking out called "The Narrows," I would recommend looking into that. As I write this, i don't know much about it, but I've heard good things. (It pops up on Google Maps, but I think driving to it is challenging, best as I know.) There doesn't seem to be much food eating places in the area, although in 2025 researched I uncovered what appears to be a nice eatery outside of St Joe's, called Big Springs Trading Company. It appears to be closed Mon & Tue, however. Road Close Alert NOTE: we came across a blocked road (at 35.982210,-92.866540, or 231 intersecting into 14 S) when we tried to go again in 2024. I didn't see any detours available and didn't know the area, so we turned around. I have since learned of a detour: simply go to Pindall first and leave from there instead of St Joes (as we'd done before), then go south down N Woolum Road (15 South), you will pass "Humming Pines RV Campground," keep going until it ends, intersecting into 14 S, then go (south) from there. Or, instead, simply point your GPS to the detours at the heading of this page in the "GPS" details above, in the given order (or simply click 1 then click 2). MAKE SURE it follows N Woolum Road, NOT US-65 S). Make sure to observe this too when leaving, best bet is probably to point it to Pindall (1 on the above list) then go from there, again making sure to go down N Woolum Rd vs South. ----------- Nearby Gas/Food St Joe's Big Springs Trading Company 36.01601,-92.786 |
