City: Hasty ARK GPS: 35.994780,-93.042050 (then until road ends about 1½ miles later) Shade: Very Good Proximity to Food/Gas: ~ 20 Minutes (Jasper) How We Found It: Cabin Owners and Tim Ernst book Fee: No Smoothness of Road: Fair Years Visited: 2012, 2015, 2017 Photo Gallery: Here Grade: A This is a spot I remember fondly from 2012 as we were told about it by the cabin owners (later seeing it in the Tim Ernst book as "Troy Eddings" on p 86) and had to get there by old fashioned "turn by the red barn located by the stump next to a rooster" sort of directions, but in fact we nailed it. (Obviously I subsequently saved the GPS coordinates.) The coordinates have you end up right beside someone's trailer and it looks like you're going into their private yard, but you're not; in fact, these directions are correct. Simply follow the road until it ends, in about 2 miles or so, and you're there. The drive down this road can be challenging, in fact I'd not recommend it if your car is too "low profile," (although you don't need 4wd), but if your car can handle it, it's one of the best spots around. As the cabin owners told me, even when other spots get low and are dry, this one remains deep. It also has great scenery, and has good shade too. Once here, you'll be heading back to Jasper to eat, it's not near much in the way of food, so figure on 25-odd minutes to get a bite to eat afterwards. (There used to be a diner in nearby Mt Judea but I don't think that's the case anymore.) Cell phone service was pretty good though, and it's near other good spots such as Hasty Campground (right on the way back to Jasper if you're eating), and also check out Carver maybe 2 miles down the road (heading back towards Jasper, south on 123 as I recall), it's not much water-wise (except for "kiddie splashing") but it has good scenery and is a good "quickie" sort of spot.
