U. S. Coast Guard and Coast Guard Reserve Friends and Personnel Gallery

These photos were taken of friends and personnel in the U. S. Coast Guard and/or Coast Guard Reserve. My father, John M. Boyd, served in the Coast Guard during World War II on a troop transport in the Pacific and as a drill instructor (BM1) at a recruit training center at Manhattan Beach, NY. I joined the USCG on 6/6/66 and served at Coast Guard Group Baltimore from 8/66 to 6/67, CG Station Lake Worth Inlet on Peanut Island from 6/67 to 12/67, and CG Recruiting Office Tampa from 12/67 to 7/70. I remained in the Reserve from 7/70 to 4/00, serving at ORTUAG 07-83479 and CGRU Miami IV until 1978, CGRU Air Station Miami from 1978 to 1994 when the unit was decommissioned, CGRU Seventh Coast Guard District from 1994 to 1996, and ISC Miami from 1996 until 2000. I fully retired as a CWO4 (PERS) on July 10, 2007 after 41 years 1 month 4 days service.

RIP YNC RONALD "RON" DAWSON: the current "Retirees Newsletter" for the USCG lists the death of my old friend Ronald "Ron" Dawson who I served with in the large personnel office at Coast Guard Group Baltimore from August 1966 to June 1967 when I transferred out for CG Station Lake Worth Inlet. Ron passed away on September 25, 2015 in Hamtramck, Michigan. Ron and I were the same age (19 at the time) and we were both SA's/SN's striking for YN in the office full of YN's up to YNCM Coyle. We later got a CWO2(PERS) but that was at the tail end of my time there and I didn't like him. As non-rates we pulled duty every 4th evening and every 4th weekend and Ron and I were in different duty sections. From time to time I would stand the duty night for Ron because he was married and either his wife was pregnant or they had a baby and I felt sorry for them because military pay was so low back then they were downright poor. Ron stayed in the USCG for about 10 years as I recall and then got into the reserve program and did his drills with units in Michigan. He and I almost ended up in the same two-week training class at Petaluma in the 1980's and a female Chief from Michigan who was in our class and who knew him told me about that. This is depressing to read of Ron's death. Rest In Peace, Ron, it was a pleasure knowing you way back when. My condolences to his family and friends. Don .

I noticed in the current "Retirees Newsletter" for the USCG that Master Chief Engineman Grady Fulcher passed away on July 13, 2015 in Sea Level, North Carolina. I was stationed at Group Baltimore with Chief Fulcher in 1966/67 and we became pretty good friends. I still have his home address in Sea Level in an old address book but we haven't had any contact since I transferred out in June 1967. Rest In Peace ENCM Fulcher, it was a pleasure to know you 49 years ago and I hope you had a great life and long retirement. My condolences to his family and friends on their great loss. Don .

Hi Gary, thanks for writing. Do you remember where you posted before? I ask because I can't find it and my short-term memory is awful while my long-term memory is great. It will be 50 years next June, 10 months from now. I just celebrated my high school 50-year reunion and it was great seeing a lot of folks after 50 years. Yes, retirement years go whizzing by, that's for sure, and congrats on 20 so far for you and I hope you live another 20 years at least. It's 15 for me so far and they've been very enjoyable. Hey Don: Haven't communicated with you for a while and ment to send a note the first of June. It seems impossible that it was 50 years ago when we formed what would ultimately be the best Recruit Company to ever enter Cape May. Looking over the Company picture I wonder what happened to all those guys!!!!! Hard to believe that I have been retired for close to 20 years.

'64 - '68 with a year in the Presidential Honor Guard under president Johnson, draftsman during CG taking over Governors Island in NY from the Army, year at Loran station in Estaca de Vares, Spain, and a joyous 4 years overall. This is the obituary for retired Chief Mark Palmieri who perished in a private helicopter crash near Kendall-Tamiami Executive Airport on April 3, 2013. The Chief served at Coast Guard Air Station Miami while I was in the air station's reserve unit from 1978 to 1994. + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + + Obituary of Mark Steven Palmieri Palmieri, Mark Steven, 53, tragically lost his life on April 3rd when his Robinson R44 Helicopter went down shortly after take off. Mark was the Owner and Pilot of Bravo Helicopters LLC based out of Miami, FL. Mark developed his love for helicopters while serving in the USCG. After serving 22 years in the United States Coast Guard he retired in 2001 as a Chief Aviation Mechanical Technician. Services will be held at Christ Fellowship Church, 890 SW 168th Street, Palmetto Bay on Tuesday, April 9th from 6pm to 9pm Wednesday, April 10th. Services at 10am. He will be laid to rest with full Military Honors at Mt. Peach Cemetery in St. Cloud, FL on Thursday, April 11th. hi don I'm making a documentary on disapearances and losses in the 'bermuda triangle'. I'm looking for any retired USCG personnel who might be able to give us some interesting stories on this, whether they believe in the mystery or not. do you know of anyone who might fit the bill? I do not know how I ended up on this site; however, I was in basic training with Nick Lubinski at Cape May in 1973 and almost fell off my chair when I saw him in one of your pictures. I would like to connect with him to see how he is doing.

What a great gallery! I was active in the CG from 1980 - 1990. I loved just about every minute of it and I do miss it. My brother-in-law is still in and this past summer, his oldest boy just joined.

Thanks for having this site. I'm Nick Lubinski, in the photo from Petaluma in 1984. This picture helped a lady in Kentucky find me to forward some pictures of my Dad who served in the Coast Guard during World War II. It's amazing how our Coast Guard family takes care of itself!
