May 2009 - Don Boyd, Master Chief Jim Walters and Bob Pear at Jim's retirement celebration from the U. S. Coast Guard Reserve

USCG Air Station Miami, Opa-locka Airport, Florida

The three of us were long time members of Coast Guard Reserve Unit Air Station Miami (07-86506) at Opa-locka Airport. Bob Pear is a retired Master Chief also. Our unit was disestablished in 1994 when the reserve program abolished individual units with separate commands and made all of us part-time members of active duty commands. I assisted Jim into getting back to the Air Station as a reservist in 2000 and he drilled for 9 more years as a reservist. The Air Station had an impressive ceremony for him in the main hangar and the luncheon prepared by the crew of the Air Station's galley was outstanding. BZ to the Air Station for doing things right!

Great to see a couple of my former senior shipmates from CGAS Miami in 1978-1980. I took over Avionics supply when Dave Fetrow made Warrant. Bob, I remember you "bumped" be off my first (and only) flight as Avionicsman to Gitmo, when we returned to OPF for some reason.

(Maybe you needed your 4 hours). I believe that may have been the time that a couple Migs played around with our Thunderpig, creating turbulence just off the 131's wingtips.

I never made it to Cuba, but I was one of the crew for the VIP flight for Prince Charles from Eleuthera to MIA. So there.
