Hello Luke, Thanks for dropping by my galleries. It always gives me great joy when somebody enjoys viewing my work as much as I enjoy making them. The comments which I write about my images are intended to give some context to the viewer, and also give some insight into the photographer's mind when the images were made. My husband and I are planning a trip to Africa this June, I only hope we capture a fraction of the "spirit" you have here. Any, suggestions on who to book thru would be wonderful. Andi

Cecilia, this is a stunning gallery! I felt like I was traveling with you in the safari! Animal images, for me, can be easily turned into boring pictures. But yours are just wonderful. I guess that’s the spirits of wildlife you captured make them so interesting!

Thank you so much Phil for leaving me such a lovely compliment here, and for sharing your thoughts under some of my images individually too. It means a lot to me coming from such a distinguised photographer as yourself. I am extremely thrilled to know that these images have been effective in expressing a sense of this incredible web of life to you. I didn't just want to present a list of images of what animals you can spot there and what they look like. I wanted to take it a step further to create a gallery that allows the viewer to experiencing its energy, rhythms, colours, behaviours, nuances and oddities - to come away feeling like they've known Kenya just a bit more intimately on several levels, even without being there. Shooting from a mini-van in a fixed position was extremely difficult - I just had to make do and let my eye and mind explore instead. But I know that having a powerful telephoto lens to help me "move", being attentive especially to how the animals were behaving and being quick to react contributed to the success of some of my photos. Not all my images were shot from a mini-van - I also took advantage of every moment I had with the animals - be it from an observation deck, during breakfast from the garden of a hotel or a walk to the room. There were animals, stories and inspiration everywhere. Thank you Sherry too for your kind words. I am delighted to hear that you found my gallery thought provoking and inspirational. I did enjoy photographing the humans in their conspicuous white vans as well. They were all part of the safari experience too. Sometimes we're so focused on the details of the animals we came to see, but it helps to be able to "step back" once in a while and look at the big picture too. Doing this can help us look at things from a different perspective, and help us make interesting photos. Good luck to you on photographing your upcoming safari trip!

Very thought provoking work Cecilia. You seemed to capture some photos that others may have neglected such as the minivan caravans and wildlife not always in full view creating interesting and almost abstract images. You have inspired me as a novice about to go on safari, to try for the nonobvious.

Congratulations on creating a gallery of African wildlife that goes beyond the recording various species and instead attempts to relate the animals to each other and to their environment. These images are filled with interactions that tell us how these animals live, rather than what they look like when having their pictures taken by a tourist. Even more amazing to me is how you were able to make so many remarkable wildlife images from a confined minivan operating in a convoy of other minivans under the time constraints of a tour. You have come away with pictures that accomplish your goal, Celia. They express the nature of this Eden-like part of the world, and you have given us numerous insights into these magnificent creatures that have somehow managed to survive into the 21st Century.
