I didn't think I could take any effective pictures in the night with the harsh lighting from a spotlight. But I was very surprised with the results. The contrasting deep, angled shadows defined the stocky form and deeply wrinkled, leathery skin of the elephant extremely well. The blackness of the night behind it also seemed to reinforce the strength and hardness of this mighty animal. My vantage point and perspective made its head protrude much bigger, intensifying its sense of might and strength, which to me is the essence of earth's largest land animal.
