| These images were made in two towns on the fringes of Death Valley. The town of Rhyolite, Nevada to the east of the Valley, and Darwin, to the west of the Valley, were started because of mining. Rhyolite is a ghost town filled with remnants of the life lived there. Darwin is not a ghost town, and it seems as if the mining is returning to the town. Darwin clearly has a more vital past but it is still very much a home to people. I was surprised by the amount of artistic endeavor present in Darwin. A sculptur, James Hunolt, lives there part time and some of his work is sitting around. But the other people who live there also seem to present artistic faces to the street. |
