The Forbes's Plover is the West African form of the Three-banded Plover but it is recognisably different. It is most often found in short grasslands with a preference for damper areas. It is partly an inter African migrant following the rains. The rolling grassy areas close to the Lope Hotel have on previous Tropical Birding trips held lots of Forbes's Plovers but there were none this year due to the dry conditions - in fact the grasslands were on fire. This bird was photographed by the roadside on our last day on the drive back from Gavilo Lodge to Omboue and was our only one of the trip.
