At Quilon I changed trains for Trivandrum. First I explored the city, including Napier Museum (built 1872), a truly awesome Indo-Saracenic pile. Next I drove south to see Padmanabhapuram Palace and Kanyakumari (which I also visited last year). On the way I photographed a sculpture of a Hindu deity riding a tiger on the roof of Sri Thasma Shastha temple at Vettumani, half way between Trivandrum and Kanyakumari. Beside the highway nativity scenes were set up in specially built thatched huts the size of a suburban garage (a week after Christmas).
