Breaking the ice here after a long delay!
Ye Olde Photographer and his Faire Spouse celebrated being retired by capitalizing on an invitation from friends to spend the 4th of July weekend with them at a family property in Arizona. Fredonia, a small town just a few miles south of the Utah border, goes all-out on the 4th. There's a fundraiser breakfast put on by the fire company (which blows its siren at 6:00 am to make sure everybody is awake and ready!) followed by a parade, and a ceremony. It was good food and grand fun.
Anyway, we decided to drive out and see some things along the way — a 25 day, 5800 mile drive through flyover country!
The bulk of the tour was done without advance reservations which enabled taking advantage of discoveries along the way. We had a few spots in mind to perhaps visit for a break or an overnight stop, but pretty much played it by ear. We had a few rain showers, but in general the weather was very cooperative. We tried to limit ourselves to six hours or less of driving on any given day, took full advantage of our navigation system, and had a good time. With today's technology, it is amazing how the passenger in the car can find and reserve a hotel room for the night in mid-afternoon, even as the car is rolling along. There are places in the country where cell service is sketchy or non-existent, but it's generally usable along major interstate highways.
In addition to the major gallery pages indexed here, there will be a sprinkling of miscellaneous snapshots on the parent gallery for some of the states, such as Colorado, Missouri, Nebraska, and Utah.
Getting these galleries online, linked here in approximate chronological order, may be a long drawn out process as YOP took a mind boggling number of photos (>3000!). He even shot 13 rolls of 120 film! The number of frames was swelled substantially in some museum situations by photographing information signs rather than taking notes.
