On the grounds of the Grand Canyon Railway Hotel there was a static exhibit of a 70 ton 3-truck Shay logging locomotive. This particular loco came from Michigan, but similar machines were used in Arizona lumber operations at some point in time. We booked a two day package that included a night at the hotel and dinner, as well as a dome car to the Grand Canyon South Rim the next day along with an overnight stay in a lodge at that location.
Ye Olde Photographer shot one roll of B&W film on this locomotive in the strong late afternoon light. The machine is a product of Lima Locomotive Works, built in 1926.
This was part of the Grand Tour 2016, a 5800 mile drive through flyover country!
