Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park is is found about 22 miles west of Kanab, in the southern part of Utah.
The park has a self-guided nature trail with signs to help explain the unusual varieties of vegetation found in this desert environment. The sand gets its color from iron oxides in the sandstone which breaks down to create the fine grains of sand. Some of the plant species are unique to a rather small area, an enviroment that can seem hostile to plant — and animal — life.
This was part of the Grand Tour 2016, a 5800 mile drive through flyover country!
