Ye Olde Photographer and his Faire Spouse pretty much did a straight east to west transit through this state on I-70. Sightseeing was somewhat hampered by occasional showers. We made an early afternoon stop in Lawrence, found between Kansas City and Topeka. Lawrence is the home of the University of Kansas. We filled the gas tank and had a nice lunch at the historic Eldridge Hotel in the downtown.
We then traveled farther west to Hays, where we stayed for the night. The old downtown there appears to be enjoying a renaissance and we enjoyed a good meal in Gella's Diner, an eatery and brew pub in an old building that has been fixed up as a sort of elegant industrial setting with lots of brick and varnished wood; quite nicely done. Ye Olde Photographer stopped a few blocks away and caught a shot in the late evening light of a massive grain elevator, a fairly common sight in Kansas.
Perhaps a future excursion will spend a bit more time in the state. At one point, the Eisenhower Presidential Museum was on our radar for this trip, but the timing didn't work out.
Our drive across Kansas was part of the Grand Tour 2016, a 5800 mile drive through flyover country!
