Montserrat is a multi-peaked mountain range located approximately 30 miles northwest of Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain. It is famous for its striking, jagged pink conglomerate rock formations, which were sculpted over millions of years by wind and water erosion. Nestled high within these unique cliffs is the Santa Maria de Montserrat Abbey, a Benedictine monastery founded in the 11th century that serves as one of Spain's most important religious retreats. Today, the site remains a major cultural hub, celebrated for housing the revered statutory of the Virgin of Montserrat (the "Black Madonna") and hosting Europe's oldest boys' choir, Escolanía de Montserrat.
