Oradour-sur-Glane

This gallery will depict the massacre that took place on Saturday, 10th of June 1944, in the village of Oradour-sur-Glane, in the Haute-Vienne region of France.
The village was far from any center of conflict; it never had an active resistance stronghold.
Yet men from the Der Führer Regiment of the 2nd Waffen SS Panzer Division Das Reich, drove into Oradour and killed everyone that they could find ~ a total of 642 men, women and children.
Afterwards, the village was looted and every building set on fire.
The village has been left as-is to remind us all to never forget.

This was a tragedy , one of the last survivor of the the german division has been found few years ago and wait for his trial but he says he hasn't done anything !!! he's too old , he says he has saved people , of course , not guilty like the others in the extermination camps. My grandfather was a friend of one of the survivor of this village. I've never visit it , even I have been very near many times , I think I can't , thanks to share it for memory.V

I feel a little embarrassed I was unaware of this location until your poignant images appeared. But maybe it shouldn't be publicised too much so that thousands of tourists spoil the feeling. It should be witnessed in relative desolation, surely. Thank You.

I can only imagine seeing and walking round it, one must feel the sadness in the atmosphere and maybe an eerie haunted mood of the ones who's lives where taken in such a way. I learned about this years ago, don't remember when. Just read the wikipedia article on it. What a senseless and horrible tragedy this was. It's good that you show these images to remind us not only to show this place to those who have not visited or did not know about its history, but to let us recognize that the cruelty of war and prevalent violence to the innocent continues in our present World.
