Several days later, local people of the area were officially authorized to look for bodies for burial.
This task became more difficult because the Germans returned 2 days after the massacre to remove all traces of their crimes.
They threw all human remains, some easily recognizable, into haphazardly dug pits.
Teams of local helpers brought many unidentified bodies of calcified flesh and bones to the surface.
Each evening ashes and debris of their fellow man were lowered into a special grave...
Today, June 10, is the 69th anniversary of this horrific massacre.
Please remember the 642 villagers that were murdered on this date in 1944.
