(March 2017) Scenes from a road trip along the Hume Highway, which links Melbourne - Canberra -Sydney.
(September 2013) This was a journey through a land I had long overlooked, to places where my mobile rarely picks up a signal and the internet connections are sporadic; wi-fi is an unaccustomed luxury. The locals speak my language and invariably prove friendly, and the sights are refreshingly different. This self-drive journey takes us through sparsely-populated countryside where, as dusk falls, wild animals become a traffic hazard. The food in the small towns en route wins no prizes, although often hearty enough, even if the wines count among the world's best.
No, it's not southern Africa. Welcome back to regional Australia, a part of the world that we've sorely neglected since the advent of cheap airfares.
