| Philip Game | profile | all galleries >> Southeastern Australia (24 galleries) >> Around the fringes of Melbourne | tree view | thumbnails | slideshow |
Outer suburbs and countryside around Melbourne, including (clockwise from the southwest right around to the southeast) the Bellarine Peninsula, the Macedon and the Dandenong Ranges and the Mornington Peninsula, with Phillip Island still further out. Amidst the native eucalypt forests of the Dandenong Ranges National Park, the 1000 Steps form the most strenuous part of the Kokoda Track Memorial Walk, a popular fitness trail created to convey a taste of the hardships experienced by Australian troops in the New Guinea highlands during World War II.
On the south-eastern outskirts of Melbourne, the Australian Garden at Cranbourne Gardens conserves 170,000 Australian native plants set in contemporary landscaped display gardens, amidst remnant bushland and wetlands.
Generally these images were captured with Nikon D200 (10 mpx) or more recently with Nikon D300, using RAW format (or on occasion with my Samsung Galaxy phone).
