Events and activities in and around Melbourne, Australia

Community life in Melbourne, population almost 5 million, is much enhanced by the contributions of our many multicultural and ethnic communities. In recent months we have witnessed celebrations and events staged by Swedish, Greek and Tamil residents. Easily the most colourful of these was the Mahotsavam Hindu festival staged in April 2023 by the Sri Lankan Tamil community at their Sri Vakrathunda Vinayagar temple in The Basin, a quiet outer eastern suburb.
