This morning we awoke to mostly clear skies, which cheered us up. We were on our way by 8:10. First we climbed up to Emerald Ridge - as luck would have it, clouds had moved back in so views were minimal. However, we did get to see more marmots! After a steady downhill, we reached the infamous Tahoma Creek suspension bridge. It's reputation is well deserved - it is VERY HIGH and VERY LONG. You can actually see it rippling ahead of you as you cross, but it actually feels very stable. After that excitement, it was uphill to Indian Henry's Hunting Ground - which was practically crawling with people. Many dayhikers were out - they were easy to recognize because they were clean and didn't smell bad. We stopped and filtered water at Squaw Lake, and Devil's Dream was not much farther. We decided, since the weather seemed to be improving, to stick to the plan and camp. Devil's Dream wasn't anything special, but did have a camp mascot - an extremely cute deer made from sticks, logs, and sprigs of greenery! We were able to rig up a clothesline and managed to get most of our wet gear reasonably dry before dark. We are looking forward to Longmire tomorrow - a hot shower, real food, and a comfy bed!
