The German Air Force, or Luftwaffe, had a large fleet of F-104's, Tornado's and F-4's in service, protecting NATO's eastern borders. The Starfighters were retired from active service in 1988.

occasionly i used to see german air force at my local airport manston in the uk german navy do 28s were quite common and ch-53s
