The weather was really bad and the number of presented F-104's was rather limited. Still, it was the last frontline unit of the Luftwaffe that said goodbye to the F-104 Starfighter, JBG34 at Memmingen, October 1987. An adventure that began 25 years before, a true 'love-hate' relationship. 'Widowmaker', 'Flying Piano'; the lovely nicknames the F-104 had.

F-104G 21+69 of JBG34 shows its rocket-like shapes at Memmingen, on that cold and rainy day, long ago. It was withdrawn from use at Memmingen on 22 September 1986 and served as a GIA at the time. Preserved at Kaufbeuren.
