Martock ~ my home!

This is the village (small town) I've been living and working in for the past 21 years. It's a great place to live ~ full of beautiful buildings and lovely people. I pastor the Christian Fellowship in the village ~ it's a great job!! Thanks for looking.

The cedar tree is a Lebanese Cedar, normally planted in smart gardens as a specimen tree. Garden gone as now surrounded by cows, (I know the tree well).

How lovely Martock looks - congratulations, really good photographs. I was very interested to see this village as I can trace my ancestry back to John Gaylard, born 1790 in Martock (or at least registered? there)and lived in Sub Hamdon. He emigrated to Victoria, Australia along with his family which included my great grandfather Alexander Gaylard, born 1842 Stoke sub Hamdon. Anyway, thanks for this small insight.

Oh Chris, Your hometown is so charming! You are very lucky to live in such a beautiful place with all those historic buildings and lovely pastoral countryside. Is the All Saints church your parrish? Thank you for sharing such a nice gallery of wonderful photographs with us, Chris! I feel like I've just had a trip over there now, almost. I've never been south of London in England though...someday.... Thanks by the way for your comment on my MacWorld gallery too. I am so glad you gave me the URL to this gallery. I have really enjoyed seeing the more complete selection or Martlock photos. The standard is very high... England is SO beautiful when the rain stops, and you have a good eye for beauty. My last trip, taking three sons born in Japan who'd never seen their father's country, had rain eight days out of the ten! That was just before your record-breaking heatwave. We, of course, would have shrugged that off, being used to 100 percent humidity and 100 degree temperatures in Tokyo. You describe yourself as a Pastor. I am active in the church, though as a layman. I worship with a small Japanese congregation on the outskirts of Tokyo. I am very active in the Alpha course movement. In fact I am currently a representative director of Alpha Japan! Perhaps you've come across this--after all, it started in the UK...
