As a 14 year old in 1959, moving to California from New Jersey, my father had the bright idea of taking a '"short cut" through Death Valley and over Tioga Pass. My memory is of traveling through Hell in an un-aircontioned car in June. I had not been back to Death Valley for almost 50 year, but I finally overcame my previous experience and visited this amazing area. I had lots of recommendations from other photographers as to what I should see during my short stay and am greatly appreciative of their advice. I was pleased with what I discovered and will go back for more. It rained while I was there which made this trip fairly unique. One surprise for me was the ubiquitous presence of other photographers - several times I was on hilltops and there were other photographers dotting the hills around me. I have one instance of that in my dune picture.
