Morning Mesa Hike on the Goose Neck

After breakfast I hiked to the south end of the mesa to see what I could see. Much of the way
I was in the ridge's shadow. When my eyes were not looking for cryptobiotic soil, they jumped
from one exciting vision to another: weirdly-shaped ridge formations, numerous little dry
washes, boulders standing silently on the ground; cacti here and there, infrequent animal
tracks, and of course the surrounding landscape. The dry washes and areas of bare rock
enabled me to avoid 99% of the "crypto," but involved numerous small detours.
