Album 8: Matakohe to Hongiaka (47 pictures)

A strange church in a paddock. An unplanned and ill-considered clamber up a small slippery mountain. Three surprising fresh-water lakes. A slow winding drive through native forest in the rain. An hour spent walking in the forest to see the second largest kauri tree still standing. A shorter walk to views over an enormous harbour with sand dunes on the far side. Dinner at a resort hotel. Overnight at a motel where our booking via internet hadn't quite worked. Across the harbour in a vehicular ferry. Two towns I had expected to be ghost towns but which were surviving quite well thank you. All this in a day and a half. New Zealand is like that.
