Cedarmere


New York home of poet and publisher, William Cullen Bryant (1794-1878). The oldest section was built in 1787 by William Kirk, a Quaker farmer.
It was renovated and greatly enlarged after it was purchased by Bryant in 1843. Cedarmere is currently owned and cared for by Nassau County.
It is one of my favorite places to take photographs.

My godmother and cousin several times removed used to live here and I came to Cedarmere back in the 60's. I am so happy that the house not only exists but is being restored again. Sad not to see indoor photos...are there any? I remember a display table with wonderful things inside, a child's dream!!

Absolutely beautiful... I love this place - come back in the Spring & take more photos please - there are now quite a number of beautiful benches for all to enjoy - a fund set up in my mother's memory - contact Cedarmere for more info if anyone wishes to contribute to the preservation - thanks!!!

As a youth I lived on Church street. My friends and I would go swimming next to Cedarmere at a place owned by Hoffman's. The entire area off of Bryant Ave. was beautiful during all the seasons of the year. I have lived in Wyoming for the past thirty years but Roslyn holds a special place in my heart. Your photos reminded me of those days.Thanks, Ted
