Shag

(phalacrocorax aristoelis)
The Shag is often confused with (Great) Cormorants and is indeed part of the same family group. It is smaller and slimmer than a Cormorant with a thinner bill. It is a common breeding bird in Scotland with colonies on almost any suitable coastal rocks and cliffs.
