Bagh District

Bagh was part of the Poonch province in the Dogra days. After 1947 it became a sub-division (Thesil) of the Poonch district only to become a district in its own right in 1988. Linked to Muzaffarabad by two roads, one via Sudhan Gali (80Km) and the other through Kohala (97Km). It is situated 46Km from Rawalakot. Bagh is well known for its confectionery and bakery products.

I am from union concil Rangla (Dhirkot) Bagh. I study from post graduate college bagh but unfortunately i did not see my college from eight years.I wish to see my college on coming vacation.It was 1995 to 2000 when i was student there.Sure our bagh is one of the famous beautifull place around the world. Please forwaerd more pictures for us.I am working in U.A.E as a document controller but every hour i am missing my City.I will request to up date more about kashmir so people around the world can see this beautifull place. Dear Mr. M.B Abbasi, I am so glad to have spotted your message on the galleries of Monsieur Gharib Hanif. It is interesting that you are writing a book on Bagh and its past. I am sure that your book will be of great interest to millions of people who live on this side of LOC from Poonch to Jammu and surrounding camp sites where they have been suffering as refugees. But our language is still alive and thriving. Unfortunately almost all who knew their homeland visually, have expired. There are very few who are in a position to move arround. Our parents told us about our homes. I belong to village of Bhont Bahiyan near Bagh. I have been trying to make contact with somebody to send me news of that side. I just succeeded in getting a dew picture of a broken temple due to earthquake near my house. This is actually a dheri where the remains of my grand fathers are burried. We are Sikhs and our families are very well settled in India and abroab. We wanted to create some contact with our village to visit and help establish some social work to help children etc. Kindly respond to my male I am keen to share a lot. We are from a very unique part of Kashmir , Bagh which has its own haritage of many many centuries. I make a pledge to all people of Bagh (offcourse with net access) please do not hasitate to speak original language with no inclusion of any outside language. Preserve old potary and other domestic artifacts from old times. Just be what you are without any complex. people of Bagh lived centuries self relaint on food, garments and medicines. Bagh, Stretches from Kohala to Forward kahuta. Bagh got its own history, unique atmosphere, Very rough mountainous terrain and hardworking and humble people. Pre-Partition Bagh was self reliant in food and dairies. Most of the working men were in Armed forces. People of Bagh are generally describes as Pothowahris of mountain regions. Language, Culture and social structure represents most of the pothowahri customs. People of pre-partition Bagh must re-establish contacts to renew our cultural heritage, ignoring politico-bono difference created during the period of independence in 1947.

Mr Kuchroo......bagh Lost all crops over the years. One reason was that the cultivated land were divided amongs the families which resulted in a very small to live on. Therefore most people went away to earn living in Pakistani cities and Overseas. Rice is still cultivated in few areas of Bagh but say only 5% of the crop was 50 Years ago.
