Faded Antique Look
Enclose is a picuture of the faded look which I tried using Scott Kelby's technique. It's actually very easy to do. I am glad I found a systematic way to do it, rather than my usual inconsistency style through trial and error.
Take a look at the before and after photos.
I know the effect is not like an antique look. Perhaps it's the colour/setting. But I followed the flow and instructions....anyway...experiment and suit to taste. :D

Vietnamese Girl
Almost Louis. Louis Phang is Malaysia's best wedding photographer. He won a prestigious award -
International Portrait Print of the Year 2010, WPPI,
shooting this beautiful Vietnamese lady at Temple of Literature. I remembered he took this shot at this place in Hanoi and visited the place, well I didn't have the costume, did try to pose like her at the same spot - as you can see she is absolutely beautiful...compared to me...hahaha...
Tried to PS his style, didn't quite get to it but almost...hehe...

Shadows
I always enjoy taking back light images especially when the sunlight is at the back of the subject. I chanced this opportunity to capture the shadows of two walking people in the park which turned out alright. In addition I set it to 2 exposure down to create the shadow effect.

Timeless Sunset
Out over the ocean, and it’s waves it lay,
A magnificent orange sphere, as it drops to the sea,
With spears descending from within the fire,
The magnificent beauty of the sunset each day,
An immanent display, for the world to share,
As it seeps below horizons, to end the day,
Only to share light, so that others may see,
The beauty of the sunset for all who care,
Up above the clouds, that shadow the light,
The rain, the snow, and the elements that blind,
That magnificent glow, that Brightens our world,
Another sunset awaits, just to share its light,

Footprints
One night a man had a dream. He dreamed
he was walking along the beach with the LORD.
Across the sky flashed scenes from his life.
For each scene he noticed two sets of
footprints in the sand: one belonging
to him, and the other to the LORD.
When the last scene of his life flashed before him,
he looked back at the footprints in the sand.
He noticed that many times along the path of
his life there was only one set of footprints.
He also noticed that it happened at the very
lowest and saddest times in his life.
This really bothered him and he
questioned the LORD about it:
"LORD, you said that once I decided to follow
you, you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most
troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints.
I don't understand why when
I needed you most you would leave me."
The LORD replied:
"My son, my precious child,
I love you and I would never leave you.
During your times of trial and suffering,
when you see only one set of footprints,
it was then that I carried you."

Simply Priceless
This is what I would call priceless expression captured of the little girl looking at her own picture on the DSLR. At the corner you can see the lady with the long neck also taking a peep and at your left a personal friend who has obviously taken her picture and showing it to her. This picture was taken in the `long neck' tribal village in Chiang Mai, Thailand. I can't remmeber the location of the place..but I suppose there aren't many as it's getting extinct. I suppose the people only wear those rings on the necks for commercial purposes to entertain tourists.....I just feel sad for the little girl having to wear it too! For them it's beauty....like having some tribes who would wear stuff around their mouth and ear lobes to make them long and wide! For some of us, it's scary sight and probably go `ewwwwwww'..........
Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.

Rocking Myself To Sleep
This image has been one of my top hits in Pbase. I particulary treasure this shot as it is one of my greatest passion to shoot children. Finally it is published in Daniel Mack's latest book -
The Hammock
which was released recently in June 2008 by Stewart, Tabori & Chang New York. Please click on the thumbnail for the picture -
Behind Bars
It's interesting to take your subject through bars.....gives you a different feel totally. By the way I did not cage him up! This was taken from bottom up where he was looking downwards from the play equipment! You might want to take a look at

I Am So Vain
Some people reckon I look like this lady on the right. She is a famous chinese singer/actress, Karen Mok. Surprisingly when I did a random search of her biography, I discovered her mother is quarter-Persian, quarter-German on her father's side, half-Chinese from her mother's; father is half-Welsh on his father's side, half-Chinese from his mother's. Now it doesn't surprise me if people don't think I look Chinese.
Innocence Of Childhood
I like the effect of taking this shot using the evening light. It gives a warm effect and the best part is I don't need to use any other additional source of lighting like in a studio. It's interesting to observe children, with their carefree attitude, with nothing much to worry. These two little girls were having a tea break and seemed not even bothered about me taking their photos.
Crossroads
There will come in time in your life when you need to make some decisions - what we call `crossroads in our lives'. Choosing a particular road will change our destiny.

Simply Mouth Watering
This is the toping of an irresistable chocolate cake which I had on my special day. Sorry guys for not being `active' in pbase lately. I am definitely not angry or sick, just been quite busy with my studies (good news is I am about to finish soon end of July this year!) and the mood isn't there. You won't be seeing much of my Nikon D300, most probably snap shots here and there. Nevertheless I am thinking of your guys. Keep posting and I will be there to see and support your work. K&H
Eskimo Kissing
The act known as Eskimo kissing in modern western culture is loosely based on a traditional Inuit greeting called a kunik. A kunik is a form of expressing affection, usually between family members and loved ones, that involves pressing the nose and upper lip against the skin (commonly the cheeks or forehead) and breathing in, causing the loved one's skin or hair to be suctioned against the nose and upper lip. It is a non-erotic form of greeting that serves as an intimate way of greeting one another for people who, when they meet, often have little except their nose and eyes exposed.
Patterns
It is very interesting to observe the designs and structures of buildings and architectures especially of temples. The Temple of Dawn, which is located in the heart of Bangkok has not only beautiful carvings on it but also repetitive blocks which forms the temple.

Big Eyes
Dogs are cute, both the character and their looks. It was the K9 2008 event and I grabbed the opportunity to shoot `dog portraits'. What I didn't realise that it's very different than shooting human portraits, being that dog features are 3D with the frontal of his/her nose pointing out. So using a wide aperture such is 3.5 is not sufficient to have a complete focus on both the eyes and the nose and mouth. Either parts would be compromised depending on your focus point. Take for example of one shot I took, click on the thumbnail. Over here you would notice that the eyes are not focused while the focusing point's on the nose. I should think a stop higher would be sufficient to solve the problem. The reason for using wider aperture is to blur out the distracting background which would be the legs of the dog owners and also these dogs are just too hyperactive, running around non stop. Thought I would share with you guys this little tip I found out about shooting dogs.
Blessings
It's very interesting to see the different cultures of the world and the type of ceremonial events proceeds. The Malay marriage is a regal affair. The bride and groom are treated as king and queen for a day. There are many stages: pre-meeting, Akad Nikah, Bersanding...etc.
This shot was taken during the ceremonial union of both the bride and groom. Relatives will sprinkle petals, oil and rice on the couple seated on the 'throne'.
Holiday Season
The holiday season is around the corner with Christmas in just a few days time. Taking this opportunity to wish all my friends in pbase a very Happy Merry Christmas and may the coming year be a glorious one. Thank you once more for your great support and encouragement. I will be around to comment on your work. Great job my dear friends!
Simply Delicious
Capturing one of the most precious moments of childhood; eating ice cream. Yummy! This shot was taken of Prince II using the new Nikon D300 and AF-S Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED.
Total Expression
I took this shot using the evening light. I requested him to pose for me and he gave me this expression which I couldn't resist. No external light was used to shoot this except natural lighting.
Golf Fish
I know this is "gruesome" sight of fish slaughter. But what I wanted to show here is the glove that the lady was wearing while cleaning the fish. How often do you witness a person using a golf glove to clean a fish?!! For another similar shot, click on this thumbnail :
Crowding Around The Net
I saw Celia's image of the fishermen hauling in the net from the sea and it reminded me of my time at Pangkor Island where I also spotted a couple of fishermen doing the same. Typically, as `tourists' we went to see if they had managed to catch any fishes. With all the hard work, they only managed to catch a few fishes. At the same time a city boy stands watching the crowd surrounding the net, checking out the fishes that were in the net. It's not an everyday occasion for any of us to witness this act. After all it was a beach resort and never in our mind would think and expect fishermen hauling in fishing nets!
Attached are a few pictures I wished to share of a young city boy witnessing the act.

Being Different
I have mixed feelings when looking at this image. A combination of joy as I look at the lady staring at my direction with a coming smile, the boy sitting dazed in deep thoughts, while the girl looks dazzled. What draws me to the shot most is the little girl having pale almost colorless skin and brown hair. A very disturbing yet eye catching image as she doesn't fit in with the rest of the people beacuse of her appearance.
One Lazy Afternoon.... with Dino
It's always fun to see what others do at the park. In this shot, the man is seen lying sleeping on the stone pavement while his wife sits besides him carrying their son who is also half asleep. Behind him sits a comical looking Dino peeping to say hello.
Reading
The first thing that probably draws you to this shot are the flowers in the big basket on the bicycle. But if you look carefully at the title of this image - it says - Reading. Why? At the far right hand bottom corner, you can see a man (the peddler) reading the newspaper. The least of the thing that seemed not obvious can sometimes be the highlight of the shot.
Come & Buy My Bag
I like the expression on the woman's face as she attempts to sell her piece of embroidery handbag. The twinkle in her eyes obviously indicated that she was delighted to have her face taken and at the same time took the opportunity to promote the sale of her goods. The little girl at the corner as an observer had a little smile on her face as she looks at the lady holding the bag and posing for that shot. The twinkling eyes are the highlight that makes this shot special.
Lines Of Pretty Lanterns
In my photography journey, I constantly look for unusual subjects to take. In particular those with vibrant colours and also which looks a bit abstract. I purposely visited the temple during the Chinese New Year to shoot the hanging lanterns. It was indeed lovely to see lines of lanterns all over the place and I couldn't resist this shot.
The Young Fisherman
It's a rare opportunity to see a fisherman pulling in the net and a chance of a lifetime for a city kid to experience this act. It put a smile on my face to see this little boy trying to help pulling in the net to shore and it's obvious that his grandpa had to take a shot of him doing that!
Romantic Moment To Cherish
This is another shot taken at Phnom Bakheng, Cambodia. I am not an expert in taking sunrise/sunset shots but it's always a nice feeling to be able to capture a scene or even producing a reasonably good picture to admire and keep. I quite like this one for the sun was shot and captured in between the woman and the man, making the entire scene a romantic one. I can imagine what both of them were thinking, being in love and at the same time admiring the beautiful sunset. Wow, what a memorable occasion! I am done with my Cambodia travel blog. At last I can sit back and relax, enjoy looking at the pictures. I hope you too have an enjoyable time browsing through this gallery. Thanks once more for your support, it's been a great challenge putting up those pictures and illustrating everyone of them! Click here for the links -
'Trekking Cambodia'
Tonle Sap Lake
This shot was taken during my recent trip to Cambodia at Tonle Sap Lake, commonly translated as the Great Lake. It is the largest freshwater lake in South East Asia. I have spent a bit of time compiling some pictures of the place with some personal illustrations written on each of the picture. Do take time to browse through it. I have especially compiled it as such that you can read it like a travel photo blog (my personal experience).
In Solitude
We spotted this monk sitting on the ruins, outside the surroundings of the temple (Phnom Bakheng). When he saw us approaching him with the camera(s), he moved his sandal away which was obstructing the shot. He sat in the lotus position and meditated. He had the most peaceful facial expression in his face. After the shot, he stopped meditating and continued his admiration of the temple surroundings.
The Human Tripod
This couple caught my attention at the top of the hill while we were waiting to shoot the sunset. I suppose he didn't bring his tripod and requested his wife to become one instead. She stood there for a very long time while he waited for the moment to come.
The Monk & Teddy
I thought that this image is pretty unique. Take a closer look....have you ever seen a monk holding a teddy bear? I purposely requested the monk to hold the teddy bear (mine of course). Initially he was speechless and probably thought I was `crazy' to ask him to hold the bear. Fortunately the group of monks were `young monks' (probably on their 2 years `pilgrimage', after some will go back on the road without the orange robe). I suppose one of them found it `cool' and actually took out his camera and took a shot of this monk holding Teddy. I wanted to take more shots, again I didn't want to push my luck too far! This was taken at the inside of Angkor Wat.
Wanna Go Shopping With Me?
Ain't she cute `holding' the piggie bag on her mouth. She looks so adorable as though she wants to go out to do some shopping. Check out her cool sunglasses and hairband. Wow! I am in love with DOGs. Going to buy me-self a puppy! Rolf!
Smile! I Am On Candid Camera!
One of my photography passion is taking candid shots of people. It's always easier with my Sony camera as the lens can be flipped in any direction, so I can pretend that I am video filming and most people don't take too much notice if compared when I use my Nikon D80 camera! Ah...that is a threatening gun! What I fear most while taking candid shots is having either my camera thrown or myself whacked instead :D.
I particulary enjoyed taking this young lady's photo and I was fortunate enough that she was absolutely too distracted enjoying taking her own self potrait to be bothered about me taking her photograph(s).
