Arriving in the Walpole and Pemberton districts with their freshwater pools and flowing streams, one is suddenly reminded of how little freshwater there is in the south-west of Western Australia. A combination of dry climate and often-sandy soils means that rivers - flowing rivers - are a rarity. But the Pemberton area has it all, bubbling streams, delightful pools surrounded by ferneries, lush forest, and even a fairly substantial river - the Warren. We camped in the forest by the Warren River for three days through mostly overcast weather with a fair bit of rain.
