Like Pemuteran, Amed was probably once a sleepy fishing village. Now it is a thriving tourist hub for diving and snorkelling.
Amed is on the north-east coast and 115 km east of Pemuteran as the crow flies – almost as far away as one can get in Bali. However, it also shares with Pemuteran a rugged backdrop, rocky soils of limited value for agriculture, and a seasonally-dry climate.
