Another year goes by and another fantastic week on Shetland with some great birds on show. The main highlights being Thrush Nightingale, Red-flanked Bluetail, Rustic Bunting, Parrot Crossbills, Red-throated Pipit, Olive-backed Pipit, Arctic & Common Redpolls, Blyth's Reed Warbler, Marsh Warbler, Ring-necked Duck, 2 Cranes + the usual Yellow-browed Warblers, Reed Warbler, Red-breasted Flycatcher and the list goes on. We also had a showing of the aurora one night as well, always special to see. The trip was rounded off whilst sitting in Sumburgh airport waiting for the flight home to find out that the Thayer's Gull Kris Gibb, Mark Wilkinson and myself found on Islay in March 2014 has just been accepted as the first record for Scotland and the 3rd for Britain. Happy days.
