I found myself distracted by the bowl. It's a little unusual and almost makes me think of another common porcelain apparatus. Great idea and execution, though.

Thanks Eric....I get it now....it is good to learn how people make such excellent images.

I like this picture, but something didn't seem quite right. I thought at first it was focus, but when I look at it in the largest size, it appears okay. Then I realised; it's the metal bars of the saucer. They are not perfectly upright but leaning to one side. Problem solved.

Thanks Ann.
Funny thing I looked at this image in its larger size and at a larger print size and it was razor sharp,I guess compression is having it's effect.

Clever idea Paul. Maybe it's just as well you had to come up with "Plan B" because it worked very well. Ann C

Sorry paul, I was just giving you an insight into how the shot eventuated.
Okay, the background was a black board covered by a piece of glass, the first five strawberries were cut in half.
The glass and board were layed on the floor with light from the setting sun streaming onto the bowl which caused the starbursts on the edge of the chrome.
Five half strawberries were laid on the glass the other three full strawberries were laid on the chrome and in the bowl to give the illusion that the other strawberries were forward of the background.
I then increased the red channel and sharpened each strawberry individually.
I then changed the colour of the background and after a suggestion by iso 3200 I removed the reflection from the glass using the cloning tool.
I took about 10 shots at a slow shutter speed with the camera mounted above on a tripod till I got the one with the starbursts.

Hi,

Thanks - so your wife held them in her lips ?!? Thats how you did it ?! I don't get it!
I was wondering how you achieved the picture.

Regards,

Paul

Umm...yes I will, the only reason I took this shot was because I had made a bargain with my wife.
If I cut up the pumpkin, for the soup, she would lend me her lips for 20 minutes before she went off to work in the afternoon.
Well , the 20minutes ended up at 10minutes and before she ate all the strawberries I thought I should check the results.
None of them were worth keeping, and by the time I decided to reshoot,it was........sorry got to go....see yah!
Well, left with half a punnet of strawberries I had to think of something!

Excellent Picture. Will the magician please reveal their secrets? Presumably they weren't shot flying through the air ? :)

Now this is what I like about challenges. It's obvious you've taken a bit of time to set this shot up, and been creative. To me, the challenge is about formulating an idea in your head, and then presenting that same image to others. I also think you have your own style when it comes to still life. There's something about the colours and light that seems a bit unique to you. Interesting starburst highlights on the hotspots that appear on digital photographs. Only thing I'm not so keen on is the white reflection cast from the bowl. But that's personal taste. iso ---
