My Sandollar

Australia

This is a treasured and much loved possession, and was given to me with all the love in the world. When my partner and I first met, we lived on opposite sides of the world. He was in the US and I was in Australia. We missed each other desperately but circumstances were to keep us apart for over a year. One day, he took a day off work and visited a beach near his home in San Francisco. He tells me he was thinking about me, looking out at the ocean and wishing he could walk over a long bridge to be with me. He looked down at his feet and lying in the sand was a perfect sandollar. He had never seen one in such perfect condition before and he picked it up, tucked it away for safe-keeping and brought this fragile treasure to me months later.
We have now been together for 5 years and married for 3 1/2 years. He is the love of my life and I will always have this special keepsake to remind me of the many months we had to be apart.

Nice story, and I think the photo would benefit from some similar drama. Maybe side lighting or an interesting setting would help.

OK, since I didn't get any comments on my image in the last challenge (and I'm new to this so I need all the feedback I can get) i'm going to go through every single last image and leave a comment ! Yours is first. I like the story (it seems in this challenge that its not a phtography challenge but a combined one as the story often improves your view of a particular image). I like the composition and everything. The only thing I'm not sure about is the texture on the background. I almost think it would be better if it was just 'empty' - plain black background. But thats just my reaction to it and as I said - I'm new to all this. Just a thought.

What a sweet story Gayle. I also like the beautiful still-life photo you made of this beloved object. Ann C
