I stayed at Galle Face Hotel, which is an experience in itself because of its character, its seaside location and its popularity as a wedding venue. Almost every day I came downstairs for breakfast to find a wedding party gathering the foyer - and another in the late afternoon. A gaggle of aunties in their finest saris seemed like a vision of beauty, and the sound of traditional drumming would reverberate through the foyer.
