From Kuala Lumpur I went to Penang for a few days before flying to Sri Lanka. I stayed at Yeng Keng Hotel in Lebuh Chulia, in the middle of Chinatown, a newly renovated converted shophouse hotel that I can warmly recommend.
This was my third visit to Penang, a place I am very fond of it. Several years have elapsed since my last visit so I looked around with a sense of wonder and without feeling jaded.
On early morning walks I explored two areas that were almost completely new to me: north-west of Jalan Penang, and north-east of Lebuh Chulia. Turning left off Lebuh Chulia into Love Lane eventually led me to a large Chinese temple I had never seen before, Kuan Yin Teng on Lorong Stewart. From there I made my way to Sri Mariamman Hindu temple and eventually to lunch at Restoran Kapitan, the Indian restaurant on the corner of Lebuh Chulia and Jalan Masjid Kapitan Kling.
