In the unlikely event that you have been following along with this gallery, you may recall some relevant facts from past descriptions:
- The Via Benedetto Marcello is a split street. This was most noticeable when we were looking at the local gardens earlier. One side of the street ran down the left of the gardens, one side ran down the right of the gardens. Obviously, that arrangement continued all the way down.
- Way back in image 160909_074314_1795 (Cycling And The City) I mentioned that there would, at some point, be "an awful lot of cars".
Well, here they are. As I've observed previously a lot of the apartments in this area are old. That means that they were built before cars were common, which means... no garages. The block in front of the community gardens, sitting between the two branches of Via Benedetto Marcello, is a dedicated car park for the locals. In Google Street View the car park is often empty, but the Google Wagon probably goes past in the middle of the day. Now, at 10 to 8 in the morning, most people have probably not left for work yet and the car park is chock a block with macchine. Thankfully, there doesn't seem to be a hulking 4 wheel drive (that never leaves the tarmac) in sight, unlike in the Illawarra where you see nothing BUT the sodding things.
Limited road and parking space makes those choices easy.
