Intersection
Where there is a cross-over on the walking/bike riding trail with the road.
I have my head down and can see the end in sight of the rose pruning, will
catch up with everyone soon.

Gateway off the trail
As we walked the trail there are many gates to houses & farms that lead
from the walking trail, and this one is quite near where we stayed.

Walking the Riesling Trail
The first thing I always do when we arrive at our destination is go for
a walk on the trail.. there is always something of interest to see.

Garden pathway between the cottages
This pathway we walked several times as the trail separated the cottages we hired
our daughters one side and us the other.
This will be the last photo in this gallery for 2016, although I do have a handful
of flower and leaf shots that will be put into a sub-gallery starting in the next
couple of days.

Old ruins in a paddock
This was over the road from the mini-golf/cafe/nursery alongside the field of fava beans
no doubt used for storage by the owners of the property.

Field of Fava Bean
Over the road from the mini-golf-cafe-nursery was this field of fava bean, similar to
a broad bean and grown as a crop alternative to the normal wheat barley etc. Many
farmers in this area grow lentils, chick peas and fava bean as a rotation crop.
Also the practice of minimum til is obvious in this photo.
Thanks to Raymond for correcting me re the name of the bean!

Families enjoying some fun on the mini-golf-course
This is something we didn't try out, but many families were enjoying themselves here.
The plant nursery was more to our taste and the option of a coffee and cake. This
is where our bike riding son-in-law met up with us before riding back to Clare, which
he found harder because there were more steeper gradients going north.

Riding the Riesling Trail
Our son-in-law rode his bike all the way from Clare to Auburn and joined us for a coffee
at a Nursery/Cafe/Golf Course and then rode all the way back to Clare. He missed out
on our visit to Jeanneret, a good thing he didn't try riding there, it was hard enough
in a car to find. We think he did well, it was a 50+-Km round trip!

Bikes on the trail in Clare
We hired a cottage that fronted right on to the Riesling Trail, there were a continuous stream
of bike riders using the trail from morning til night besides people strolling along
pushing pushers and Grandparents entertaining youngsters either walking or riding.
Here you can see a group that passed me on the trail disappearing in the distance.
I loved walking on the trail... each time we stay here the trail has something to offer.

We found it!
After what seemed like an endless drive looking for this winery, we were so glad
to find the entry gate and sign! It was an enjoyable visit to the tasting rooms
here and now we know where it is we'll come back another year.

The setting for Jeanneret Winery tasting rooms
Looking around outside of the rooms I took a few photos of the setting, all
natural except for some daffodils planted in a different direction to where
this photo was taken. This native setting is typical of this area in the
Skilly Hills to the west of Watervale and the Clare Valley wine growing district.

Tasting at Jeanneret
A little boutique winery way off the beaten track, you almost need a compass to find
them! Here you see Dick entertaining a group of young tasters, they unfortunately
mentioned to him that he looked like he was a good story-teller, so you can imagine
how difficult it was for me to get him back into the car!

More of the agave near Kilikanoon
This will probably be the last near Kilikanoon... moving on to photos taken in
Clare and Auburn from tomorrow.

The garden gate - Kilikanoon
Taken from the car parking area the tree with the coloured leaves caught everyone's eye
including me.

On the side of the little roadway past the wine tasting rooms of Kilikanoon.

Roadside view
I had plenty of time to wander around with my camera while the others chatted and/or
tasted wines once the eating was over.

Display vineyard gate.
Although officially winter there were still some autumn leaves on the vines.

Road to the winery - Kilikanoon
A little side road comes off the main road through the Skilly Hills, its
quite a good road as you can see here... this is the bit that goes past
the tasting rooms & picnic area.

Wine barrel tables
Set up out of doors for tasting wine on sunny days... no one was taking up the option
the day we called in, but we can imagine it absolutely buzzing with activity on a
spring or summer's day/evening.

Garden-gate into the picnic area, Kilikanoon
It was such a lovely area set aside for those who wanted to have a family picnic
in the pleasant gardens of the winery tasting rooms. We had a protected and raised
area with a table and proper chairs & could choose bottles of wine on site.

Kilikanoon display vines
Just a few vines to decorate the landscape near the tasting rooms and restaurant
where people can also have a picnic lunch out of doors if they wish. This is
what our family decided on giving me opportunities to walk around and take a few
photos. Here is one taken from a covered picnic area. I remind you that it
was a winter's day so the vines have lost their leaves and are in need of pruning.

Street trees (in winter)
Delightfully shady trees line the road alongside the Riesling Trail
nearest to where we stayed for the long weekend.

On the Riesling Trail
Traversing the picturesque Clare Valley wine region, the Riesling Trail is one of the first rail-trails
to be developed in South Australia. The trail runs for 27-ks along the old Riverton to Spalding railway line.
The trail runs between the towns of Clare and Auburn - approximately two hours drive north of Adelaide.
It is well compacted, making it suitable for recreational walkers, off-road bicycles, wheelchairs and pushers.
Named after the grape and wine variety that the region is famous for, the Riesling Trail travels past many cellar doors
and other visitor attractions, making it ideal for those wanting a leisurely walk with a distraction or two!
[from Trails Australia, Dept. Sport & Leisure, S.A.]
I made sure I walked the trail more than once a day while we stayed so close.
