Shizuoka and Mt. Fuji 静岡と富士山

The sizeable capital of its eponymous prefecture, Shizuoka is a significant industrial center located on the Tokaidō Main JR and Shinkansen lines. Formerly a castle town known as Sumpu, it is particularly famed for its green tea and mandarin oranges, which are produced just outside the city proper.

Also included here are some shots of Japan's highest and most famous peak - one notoriously fickle about showing its face. All were taken from the train while passing near Fuji City on Mt. Fuji's southern flank - some in February of 2006, and the others in April of 2009.
