Tateyama-Kurobe Alpine Route 立山黒部アルペンルート

One of Japan's most celebrated mountain sightseeing routes, running across a spectacular stretch of the Central Alps between Nagano and Toyama Prefectures. Both notoriously crowded and exceptionally expensive with some six different modes of transport, it is especially popular during the colorful autumn. Unfortunately, the summer conditions can be a bit on the unpredictable side, as can be seen in these photos from July 2008 (when most of the area was shrouded in clouds, fog and occasional rain).
