Astor's Beechwood

Beechwood was built in 1851 for a New York City merchant named Daniel Parrish. William Backhouse Astor, Jr. purchased the mansion in 1881,
and it became the social center for New York Society for twenty-five years of the Gilded Age.

John Jacob Astor IV (July 13, 1864 – April 15, 1912), was the son of William B. Astor, Jr. and he died in the sinking of the RMS Titanic on April 15, 1912.

Today, the estate is operated as Newport's only living history museum and features actors portraying the daily lives of those who inhabited, ran and cared for the estate.
