Storm Over the Pony Express Trail 04_27_05.jpg

Today I headed west out onto the desert. I wanted a photo that said "out west" to me. I can't think of anyplace better to get that feeling than the old Pony Express route. So I headed out on the trail looking for wild horses, pronghorn antelope or something to make my photo. I decided the Pony Express Trail told its own story with a thunder shower rolling in across the valley.

This is Five Mile Pass. The thunder storm in the distance put down almost three inches of rain. In a normal year this area gets about 10 inches of moisture.

Another shot from the Trail looking west...a few cattle on the open range.

I didn't find any wild horses today; but, I did find a little Pronghorn Antelope Buck. He is looking a little rough because he is shedding his winter coat.

I need more time to go thru, but I'm picking around tonight!

Glad to see you in action, it's like visiting friends

I used the 10D for the landscapes because I had the 300mm mounted on the 20D in the seat beside me if I need a quick shot for wildlife.

Hi Bill, I love all of your galleries. You live in such a beautiful place. Just wondering if there was any reason that you decided to use the 10D for these shots.
Keep up the awesome work.

Excellent job of catching the wide-open, weather-dominated, wild west.
