Springtime Comes to the Great Basin.jpg

The high desert areas of the Great Basin are beginning to bloom. After six years of drought we had a very wet Fall, Winter and Spring. Like the other deserts of the Southwest we should have a Springtime wild flower bloom that will be remembered for years to come.

I don't know what type of little purple flower is now carpeting the local desert area; but, I sure think they are beautiful.

Well being a landscape photographer, if I lived next to that kind of scenery, you'd never get me out of those mountains! :)

But I make do with stuff like this:

Nick, thanks for looking in. I hope not seeing Wanda in her "smalls" wasn't to big a disappointment. She'll be on a more like once a week schedule. We're now doing a normal "PAD" project. Taking a picture of what ever I feel like it so much easier.

Now I'm headed back out on the desert to see what I see. Maybe I'll get lucky and find some wild horses or prong-horn antelope. Maybe I'll just find a picture that says the "American West". Who knows?? Bill

What no picture of your wife in her smalls in the frame? ;)

John, this isn't sage. It is a little low growing flower. I'm not sure but I think it turns into a little sticker weed. I'll have to get a nice Western scene with sage in it for you to see. I don't know why the talk about purple sage. It is really a more silvery blue green to very light silvery lavender. Maybe that gives me an idea for today.

I wonder if it is purple sage. I have read about it in western stories. Great shot also.

Steve, yes I was using a circular polarizer filter. It does help saturation and detail if the subject is in the right relationship to the sun.

I really like this one. Great range of color and light, and the great western sky. Did you use a polarizer on this photo?
