Sail back from St.John to St.Thomas, waterfront of Charlotte Amalie, June 5, 2009
Our route was through the Pillsbury Sound all way to the south, passing both St.James Islands
and the Dog Island. This provided us with with gorgeous visuals of Cruz Bay on St.John. Upon arrival in St.Thomas we entered the bay of Charlotte Amalie and cruised along the waterfront of St.Thomas's capitol town. From this perspective one can see that Charlotte Amalie is located on a foothill and slopes of several hills: Frenchman Hill, Berg Hill, Government Hill and the Bluebeard Hill.
The Haulover Cut between the Harbor of Charlotte Amalie and the Crown Bay has indicated depth of only 12 feet at some places. This might have been too shallow for the Mezzaluna, and so we cruised along the Hassel Island out of the bay, to enter the Gregerie Channel, and than our destination: the Crown Bay Marina. On the sparsely populated Hassel Island we saw several ruins of Danish installations alongside with its well preserved natural beauty. For our last night and tomorrow's flight we checked in to a hotel. |
