Common Myna (Piha'ekelo/Manu'aipilau)

Acridotheres tristis

Everywhere you go in Hawaii, you will come across Mynas scolding you and everything else
around them. They are very vocal and announce their presence with raucous calls.
One of the 100 most invasive species in the world, they where brought to the islands in1865
to control an infestation of army worms in sugarcane plantations but rapidly became agricultural pests themselves.
Worse, they prey on the eggs of native birds.
The Common Myna’s omnivorous appetite and pugnacious personality have earned it several
Hawaiian names that translate to “noisy” and “trash eating bird”.
Nevertheless, they are an interesting and distinctive looking bird with a remarkable ability
to survive and thrive.

Excellent shot! For some reason, in my head, I always pictured them as all black. ~BV~
