Normally we have two weeks for our Wyoming vacation, but thanks to a furlough we had an extra week this year. We took the opportunity to spend some time hiking in Grand Teton National Park, relaxing at Granite Hot Springs, and geyser gazing in Yellowstone. To avoid the Tetons during a busy holiday weekend we camped two nights at Granite Springs, located in Hoback Canyon south of the Tetons. After relaxing in the hot springs for two days we were ready to hit the trail again. We climbed Jackson Peak in the Gros Ventre Mountains and hiked to Surprise and Amphitheater Lakes in Grand Teton National Park. While Steve ran the Teton Crest Trail (35 miles!), Norah and I did two ranger led hikes to Phelps Lake and Taggart Lake. We also watched sunrise and sunset every day, spotted moose, black bears, and elk; and oohed and aahed over the lightning during an intense thunderstorm. A week well spent!
