My balcony observatory

As with almost every observatory, this one is a "work in progress". Here I will try to document various development stages.

The idea of building a balcony observatory stroke me one late night while tearing down a garden setup. As I do not have a permanent garden observatory, I have to set-up and tear down my imaging rig every time I wish to image. Setup and tear down times could be significantly shorter if only I was able to keep the mount and cabling permanent and only carry out the scope. Leaving the tripod and mount in the garden just under a tarp was ruled out for security reasons. So - why not place it permanent on the balcony? While the access to the sky is limited by the roof, still there is a nice view to south-east, where many interesting objects could be seen. Also, the north sky is dominated by the light pollution glow from the Warsaw city.

The idea was planted for a couple of months, and than I took the plunge and ordered a steel pier to be made by a nearby metal shop, and so the construction took off.
